Planning For Aging Adults Experiencing Disabilities

There are often tough decisions to be made as we and our loved ones age. Knowing where to turn for solutions to a unique situation involving a disabled person can be overwhelming.

Families and individuals often need support making some of those decisions. Decisions about when care is needed in the home, what living situations are healthiest for our loved one and questions around specific disabilities are all common dilemmas.

Special guest, Joyce Sjoberg of Aging Advisors, joins us on Thursday, May 27th at 9:00am to answer some key questions.

1) What can families begin to do now to make for a more seamless transition of support?

2) What are some technologies that you and your team are using to care and support individuals?

3) What advice would you have for siblings that will care for another family member in the future?

4) Delegation of responsibilities for a parent is difficult. Any tips on easing this transition?

5) We have an aging population that needs support but with only limited caregivers. Where do you see caregiving going in the future?

6) For an individual living independently with supports, how does a care team or sibling stay organized when trying to manage appointments, medications, meals, hygiene, activities of daily living? Any tips?

7) If parents are the main caregiver now, what recommendations would you have if they wanted to begin involving a sibling?

8) How do families find good quality caregivers that they trust? What questions should you be asking?

9) Families are always striving to equip the home with the necessary supports. When is it worth hiring a firm to complete an in-home assessment?

10) I’m a parent and I'm considering investing in real estate that my child with a disability will live in. What should I be thinking about from a caregiving and support perspective? Location, accessibility, certain amenities, community, etc.
